Welcome! Hola! Konnichi wa! Privet! Shalom! Aloha! Sawubona! Bonjour! Nî hâo! Salaam! Our trip down the Mississippi River started as a pipe dream 14 years ago, but on June 16, 2006 this vision will become reality. Beginning at the headwaters (Lake Itasca, MN) our adventure will encompass 10 states, 2,350 miles, and end at the Head of Passes, LA (the Mississippi's delta in the Gulf of Mexico). During the trip we will raise money for schools through The Mr. Holland's Opus Foundation.

So why did we choose this charity? The Mr. Holland's Opus Foundation supports music education and its many benefits through the donation of new and refurbished musical instruments to underserved schools, community music programs, and individual students nationwide. As teachers, we believe that education is a key to building communities. With school and community music programs being discontinued or severely diminished due to budget cuts, the positive effects of music education on children's emotional and intellectual growth have been proven repeatedly.
How can I donate? Please click: Hurricane Katrina Fund. Place a check where it says "Hurricane Katrina Instrument Fund" near the top of the page and specify in the "Acknowledgment Section" that it is "In Honor Of" the "Kanoeing for Katrina" trip. They will keep track of all money donated through our trip for matching purposes. Donate as little or as much as you like... for the kids every "little" bit helps. For example, if you pledge $0.01 (one penny) per mile, that would be $23.50. When completing the online donation form, please ONLY include the total amount you wish to donate, not the pledge-per-mile amount. You'll know that your donation went through if you receive a thank-you letter from MHOF. With sponsorships from Coors Beer, amongst others, we will donate every unused penny as well. Thanks so much for being a part of our journey! Click on the following link to answer the burning question... WHERE ARE WE NOW?!? Aloha!

Dole & Nuke,
Good luck on your voyage this summer. I look forward to hearing all about it when you are done. Take a lot of pictures and try to remember all the cool things that you see and do. That is truly a great opportunity and it is awesome that you are tieing charity work into it as well. Safe travels and keep it between the rocks.

Hey pal, I am very impressed with what you and Daren are doing. I understand it much more and will check it out often. Stay safe and don't forget us at Carus. The days are passing a bit slow though. Safe launching to you! Lois
Glad I was able to have lunch and visit before you all left. I wanted to let you know that Dole did not buy me the winning lottery ticket. Nuke - I am assuming that you are a rich man now. Best of luck as you start on the trip.
Mr.Salisbury, Mr. Bartsch, oh yeah...Mr. Sleeper: Hey from Oregon. Finally summer here. It sounds like y'all are having a great time...be safe, don't drink TOO much beer, and watch for moving objects with really sharp teeth. KZ

Anybody know where they are right now? or when they will update?
wwhere are they?
OK. so what truly is going on? Aaron said he would be updating this frequently. Can they possibly be caring that much beer in which to cause them not to update this wonderful website. So all you people out there let's share our last Sleeper sightings. Mine was on June 10th in Canby Oregon: Sleeper was partying down with the coworkers at a function.
I did get a phone message on the last day of work to with him ribbing me about me in my classroom and him on the river with a leinys in his hand.
Of course all his stuff is also currently stuffed into a closet in my house awaiting his return.
If you have seen him let us know!!!
My name is Andrea
My mom sings with Betsy and I live in Winfield Mo where you plan on having breakfast in the morning.
I am planning a surprise for you for tommorrow evening. I'll talk with you over breakfast in the morning.
Hey guys,
"Dylan" here...I've been reading your blog..truly amazing and inspiring. I remember listening to you talk on this at Jono's wedding and knowing that you would make it happen and you have...kol ha-kavod (much respect and honor unto you both) as we say in the Hebrew. I attended the 'One River Mississippi River' celebration and thought about you guys...I'm off to NM for a retreat centering around earth-based wisdom with Native American and Jewish wisdom-keepers, then off to T-Bird's 60'th. Breethe all of this holy experience deep insode and say 'hey' to the Mardi Gras Indians when you hit N.O. Can't wait for the movie!!!
